- The Elms was situated between the Co-oP and a building now being used by Bartletts Solicitors on Hoole Road. According to retired pre 1941 fireman this building was the old Hoole fire station, but there is no written evidence to support the statements.

- Hoole Urban District Council.
1894 - 1954. 1920. Hoole Council purchased the 'The Elms' house and grounds in Hoole Road (A56) for a new council offices and chamber. A new fire station was also going to be build in the grounds.
1922. Contract signed for new fire station, stables etc. Shortly after this a proposal to close the fire brigade down all together or modernise the brigade.
1925. Hoole UDC/VFB disbanded and Fire Cover provided by the City of Chester Fire Brigade, Northgate Street.
1954. Hoole UDC merged with the City of Chester County Borough.
1954 - 1968. Chester AFS used part of the old council offices as their headquarters. AFS appliances were based at Hanbridge (St. Johns Road). Both 'The Elms' and the Handbridge garage were used for Drill and storage until the new fire station was opened in St. Anne Street on 6th July 1970.
Note. It is unclear if Hoole council actually built a fire station on the Elms site. The are no council minutes to say that it was or newspaper cuttings in local newspapers. A metal hose drying tower was built and this was moved to Northgate Street fire station in 1926 and was still in use to 1970
